Today I received this email: "I didn't get in till 9:30 and no one told me about this. Richard has been reminded who runs this show and that he was aware that I had extended an invitation to you that was open ended. Just Richard being Richard I guess. I am really sorry about this Kevin and I am sure that it will not happen again."

I'm not so sure about a happy ending Kevin, you know Richard, how in the heck am I going to calm him down without getting him all fired up?
ReplyDeleteI have to post again because this just tears me up.The members of Christ Church Cathedral (Richard is NOT a member) are the warmest most loving people I have ever met. The members who make Room in the Inn their ministry do it because they want too. They truly want to make a difference in the mens lives. Some continue their involvement beyond the one night a week, helping with jobs, medical issues, transportation and just good old being a friend. I have discussed this with my wife and I think I need to try to help Richard rethink why he is involved in this. Please do not judge the entire Church on the grumblings of one grumpy old man.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am sorry you were not welcomed this week as you should have been, I am glad this will no longer be the case Kevin.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like someone needs to be around to help provide better oversight over certain people who are exercising power they either do not really have or maybe should not be allowed to have.
That said, it does a heart good to see all this passion (read: love) pouring out.
Hopefully such love and understanding will also be extended to Richard as well, even as he is educated about what his role may and may not be as well as informing him when his behavior and actions to people in need are not acceptable.
I volunteer at my local library and the worst part of it is that some of the other volunteers seem to be doing it so they can boss people around. I'm glad your situation has gotten straightened out and though I don't know any of the people involved personally, it does seem to me that somebody needs to examine why Richard is allowed to deal with people who need help as if they were children or criminals. I don't know what his motivations are, but his actions speak pretty loudly.
